HUMAN RACE 2019:  MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU!

On Saturday, May 4th, 2019, the North Coast Resource Conservation & Development Council will participate for our seventh year in the Sonoma County Human Race! From fire resiliency actions to our youth programs, the NCRC&DC is here for our community -- with your support, then "The Force is With Us" to help our community now and into the future.

The Human Race is one of our primary fundraisers to help us link youth environmental education to youth action, and provide hands-on opportunities to make on-the-ground change, including planting pollinator habitat, saving water, addressing global warming, and conserving the wonderful natural resources where we live and work. Our programs all rely on making simple changes that cumulatively make for big impact, whether in addressing climate change or in building the leaders of tomorrow.

Many of you know that our signature programs is Bee Patches (beepatches.org) that plants pollinator habitat with local youth. This year for one of our patches we are bringing the joy of a thriving pollinator habitat to a former industrial site in southwest Santa Rosa. Our Bee Patches Team has designed a bountiful habitat garden to be drip irrigated by a rooftop rainwater collection and storage system (one of our Rain Catchers). This garden will be created and built by youth from Southwest Santa Rosa as they learn principles of ecology and conservation, and with your help the youth can turn a barren landscape into a beautiful, sustainable pollinator habitat filled with these small wildlife.

You might be asking, “What is the Human Race?” The Human Race is a nationwide community fundraising event for nonprofit organizations. In Sonoma County, it’s the largest collaborative fundraising event and the largest Human Race in the nation! It has been one of the most successful fundraisers for local nonprofits for over 35 years and it continues to grow. In 2019 the NCRC&DC is hoping to have our best year ever, and we are setting our goal at $11,000 so that we can continue to build these great community programs and be there for all of our residents.

All donations are tax deductible. Help make a difference in our community by donating $10, 25, 50, $100, or whatever you can. And if you know anyone who would be interested in environmental protection and sustainable communities, please send them a link to our page: https://humanracenow.org//Participation/NorthCoastRCandDCouncil#/ That would be much appreciated!
